'Nayika', a Jayaraj directorial venture , take on the life of a yesteryear heroine, this movie will the have Jayaram, Padmapriya and senior actor Sharada in the important roles. The movie is produced by Thomas Benjamin. Deedi Damodaran is the script writer.

Nayika is the story of Gracy (Sharada) a leading star until she suddenly disappeared from the silver screen. Now, Aleena (Mamta) has come to do a documentary on her life. Aleena unravels the mystery surrounding Gracy's life and her sudden disappearance from the silver screen. Jayaram dons the role of a prominent hero of those times and Padmapriya stars as the younger version of Gracy. Siddique also has a major role in the film, playing the character of Stephen Muthalali, the owner of a prominent film studio.
Jayaram,Padmapriya and Siddique, Mamta Mohandas play their roles very well. After a short break, National Award winning veteran actress Sharada is again back to Malayalam and steals the show as Gracy with her acting perfection.
Jayaram with his different attires, hairdo and constant switching over from the mannerisms of each of the past day hero. Mamta Mohandas carves out each dimension on her character with such a precision that we hardly find anything dramatic in the proceedings. Padmapriya looks really beautiful in Sharada's flashback scenes and convincing as well . Siddique and Jagathy Sreekumar comes up with a decent performance as well. Sarayu, John also appears in good cameos. The rest of the cast have done their parts in a fine way.

The visuals created by cinematographer Sinu Murukkumpuzha is ok one. Editor Sobin K Soman used some varied tones to tell the past stage. Songs by Sreekumaran Thampi-MK Arjunan are brilliant and but some what miss to execute nostalgic feel on scenes.A remade version of the golden oldie 'Kasthuri Manakkunnallo..'from the 1975 film Picnic is notable one.
The highlight of the movie is definitely the exquisite script work by Deedi Damodaran, telling the plot as monologues of different personalities involved. 'Nayika' remembers or points many characters of past Malayalam Cinema. If makers trimmed some overly melodramatic and slow scenes, the movie would have been even more better. Its is a sincere effort from Jayaraj .Nayika is recommended for all those who like to have something novel remembers the past or slow mood flicks.
